Digging in the garden

The science curriculum at SRV meets national standards for science education. Weekly science classes for children from preschool and up combine teacher-led lessons and activities in biology, chemistry and physics, and experiences and projects inspired by the children's interests and questions.

Student Garden Wins Award!

The School in Rose Valley was awarded a second place ribbon in the Student Garden category from Penn State Urban Gardening, part of Pennsylvania State University's College of Agricultural Sciences and the U.S. Department of Agriculture! Our students' hard work paid off! Their work with Ridge (Facilities Manager) and Eliza (former Science and Sports Teacher) starting a vegetable garden has been such a success that Ridge tripled its size! Many of us have been able to enjoy the 'fruits' of their labor (tomatoes, lettuce, eggplant, zucchini, summer squash, carrots, radishes, onions and peppers) and we'll be enjoying much more of the garden's goodness in the future. This project was inspired by our partnership with Red Hill Farm, a local community-supported agriculture (CSA) project. The farmers at Red Hill, Chris and Amy, have been teaching children at SRV about soil composting, organic gardening and agriculture over the last two years. We look forward to continuing this partnership this year through the efforts of Robin Lasersohn, our Service and Partnership Learning Coordinator.
