Mini Courses

Comments from our winter session

"Knitting for Beginners" taught by Carlye, Karla, and kindergarten teachers Nita and Annie, started off with an eclectic mix of K's through 3rd graders, boys and girls alike. The kids made their own knitting needles, balled newly purchased skeins of yarn and discussed their goals for the course. My dad doesn't know how to knit, " commented one Kindergarten student, "Maybe I'll teach him after I learn."

  1. Many students cozily enjoyed tea (from real china) and cookies while Loretta read and discussed stories in the Library.
  2. Scott, last year's science teacher, had an enthralled group of future fisherman examining flies and learning about what fish eat.
  3. Lori and Erin brainstormed with their service learning group the kinds of activities they would work on with the residents of Bishop Nursing Home. This group went from being very nervous to go the the Nursing Home to be sad when the mini course was over.
  4. Barks, yelps, and howls came from Mel & Robin's Dog Club, where they learned about dog breeds, baked home-made dog biscuits, and visited a dog shelter.
  5. In the Kings Quest course with Mike, our computer teacher, a group of boys and girls created a huge grid on a bulletin board to keep track of all the information needed to solve the mystery of the computer puzzler, Kings Quest.
